| | This is a picture of some of the staff coming back from a patrol. What is unusual about this, is most of the time, the staff never patrols, but mainly only work in the headquarters. These guys went out to meet with the local Agricultural Association to discuss ways to help the local farmers. Here is a picture of three of the Soldiers receiving their Purple Hearts from GEN Petraeus. The Soldiers are (from L-R) SSG Nestor, CPL Tenholder, PFC Emery. They were wounded in an IED strike during an operation to clear Al Qaida out of a rural area northeast of Iskandariyah, Iraq. This was from Jan. 2008. | PVT Cruz left and on the right is SGT White. Russ is in the middle. They are both from the battalion PSD (Personal Security Detachment). They normally take the battalion top 5 (Battalion Commander, Command Sergeant Major, Executive Officer, S3 and S3 Sergeant Major) out when we leave the FOB. | Here is one of MAJ Russell Switzer with the S2 and two of the company commanders. | This is the bathroom method in the Middle East Country of IRAQ. Before these toilets were installed the common method of relieving oneself by the citizens of IRAQ was to use the left hand to wipe, no running water available dropping the pants and going for countrymen was the way it was done. Why the left hand is considered unclean. Ok, now you all know where that saying came from. Though we hope our American soldiers have never attempted this unclean habit. The above pictured bathroom is used by standing on the blue ridges and squatting to defecate or urinate. We're sure everyone appreciates their private bathrooms we are lucky to have in the US. We're wondering how it fell in the ditch. This is the drinking water supply to the people. Please remember they are a third world country and do not use toilets or bathrooms, but squat and go, using their left hands to wipe with, that is why the left hand is considered unclean to them according to the information given to us.
